Social Networking Habits Vary Considerably Across Asia-Pacific Markets
Philippines Exhibits Highest Social Networking Engagement

Facebook Competes with Local Brands for Title of Top Social Network

Singapore, April 7, 2010– comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, today released its latest report on social networking activity in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China) based on data from its World Metrix service. The study found that 50.8 percent of the total online population in the Asia-Pacific region visited a social networking site in February 2010, reaching a total of 240.3 million visitors. Facebook.com ranked as the top social network across the majority of individual markets in the region, while competing brands commanded the top position in certain markets, including Orkut in India, Mixi.jp in Japan, CyWorld in South Korea and Wretch.cc in Taiwan.

“While social networking continues to be one of the most popular and fastest growing Web activities in the world, its dynamics in the Asia-Pacific region exhibit significantly more individual market differentiation than in other global regions,” said Will Hodgman, comScore executive vice president for Asia Pacific. “In some markets, such as the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia, social networking is one of the most popular Web activities reaching nearly 90 percent of the entire Internet population, while other markets report less PC-based social networking penetration, which can often be attributed to the high propensity to engage in social networking via mobile devices in these markets.”

Social Networking Penetration Highest in Philippines, Australia and Indonesia

In February 2010, Internet users in the Asia-Pacific region averaged 2.5 hours on social networking sites during the month and visited the category an average of 15 times. Across markets, the Philippines showed the highest penetration of social networking usage with more than 90 percent of its entire Web population visiting a social networking site during the month, followed by Australia (89.6 percent penetration) and Indonesia (88.6 percent penetration).

Social networkers in the Philippines also showed the highest level of engagement on social networking sites averaging 5.5 hours per visitor in February, with visitors frequenting the social networking category an average of 26 times during the month. Strong engagement was also exhibited by Internet users in Indonesia (5.4 hours per visitor and 22 visits per visitor), Australia (3.8 hours per visitor and 20 visits per visitor) and Malaysia (nearly 3.8 hours per visitor and 22 visits per visitor).

Facebook Assumes Top Position in Majority of Asia Pacific Markets

An analysis of top social networks in each of the Asia-Pacific markets included in this report revealed various brand preferences across markets. Facebook.com was the social networking leader in eight of the markets – Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Vietnam – while in other countries competing brands captured the top position. Local players led in Japan (Mixi.jp) and South Korea (CyWorld), while Google-owned Orkut ranked as the top social networking site in India and Yahoo!’s Wretch.cc led in Taiwan.

Pay Per Click - Yes or No











Creating World Class Pay Per Click Programs Requires Many Hours of Custom Design

 
  Flyline Search Marketing specializes in Pay Per Click management. We believe that the secret to success with Pay Per Click comes from creating what we like to call "Synergy". There are many elements to the formula we developed for our programs, but all elements are focused around the creation of "Synergy." The ultimate goal of any PPC campaign should be to drive conversions. We often hear Internet Marketing firms talk about the value of clicks and the importance of click through ratios. We even had a client, Zerorez of Albuquerque, send us a document they received from another PPC firm, touting that they could generate a 40% or better click through rate and advising our client to give them a chance to prove they could deliver. Let me ask you a question? By the way, it's the same question that we posed to our client. Are you using Pay Per Click to drive clicks to your website or do you expect PPC to deliver new customers for your business? The client's answer was the one we expected. She wanted new customers. Enough to pay for the cost of the advertising and enough to provide for an acceptable profit margin from the activity.

  Not to be critical, but if you are an Internet Marketing Agency, like Flyline Search Marketing, your job has to be to deliver new business customers and increased gross revenues. Our Zerorez client had it exactly right. To be clear, "Click Through Ratio," by Google's definition is as follows: Clickthrough Rate: To get an immediate idea of how well a campaign is doing, check the clickthrough rate (CTR). Clickthrough Rate is how often people click your ad after seeing it. As a rule of thumb, a CTR under 1% indicates that your ads are not targeted to a relevant audience. If you find that your CTR is low, we recommend optimizing your account. We advise our Pay Per Click clients that Clickthrough is a great indicator of whether their Google ads are performing effectively. We like to see our clients ads generate a Clickthrough in the range of 3% - 5% or better. Difficult to always accomplish that, but we seem to approach those numbers if we work to create "Synergy".

Clickthrough is clearly not the most critical piece of the PPC equation, just one of the metrics that must be monitored.

  We keep talking about the term "Synergy." Lets get down to the brass tacks for a minute. Flyline Search Marketing Pay Per Click designers, work to create a total connection between, the keyword, the Google ad, the Google ad content and the Landing Page we deliver the prospective client to. Creating this "Synergy" often results in generation of a solid Clickthrough ratio. Better still, it often results in a strong PPC Conversion Rate. What is Conversion Rate you ask? We believe that PPC Converions are that critical component you should be focused on. We define Search Engine Marketing Conversions as: The number of site visitors, delivered by the Google Adwords PPC campaign we built for you, that ulitimately become your clients, divided by the total universe of site visitors our PPC program actually delivered to your web site.

  Google Adwords has created the Conversion University, which allows PPC managers to set up conversions objectives within the Google Adwords program that then provide you with conversion code you can upload into your HTML source code. Once the code is loaded, your Adwords program can provide you with data to show which keywords are actually driving your conversions. If you focus on driving conversions and revenue generation, and not just on Clickthrough ratios, you will find that your Pay Per Click program can produce some very nice returns.
